Bill Dendy LOVES Rotary. He will be at our Rotary Club meeting this Wednesday night, to tell us all about the Rotary Foundation Who, Why & How.
Bill Dendy LOVES Rotary. He joined The Rotary Club of Dallas in 2000 and served three years on the board chairing a different Avenue of Service each year- providing the weekly Rotergram newsletter, chairing Camp Enterprise, and helping establish the club’s first Interact Club. In 2008 Bill served as District Treasurer and established the district’s evening Rotary club which grew to over 40 members and became the district’s e-club.

As District Governor in 2016-17, Bill’s district led the Rotary zone in Membership Growth; and was recognized as a top district for Public Image in the paired zones. Furthermore, Rotary Foundation giving grew with overall Foundation contributions increasing by over a million dollars. Bill attributes these successes to sharing Rotary and to that end has helped clubs create over 200 professional videos to share Rotary with Rotarians and the world. “Rotary should be uplifting and FUN,” says Bill, and his team hosted several fun and memorable events. Beginning with his governor’s installation presided over by RI President John Germ, the District saw hundreds in attendance at every major event, including the Foundation Celebration and the District Conference Cruise.

While fun and fellowship are important, Bill reminds us that, “service is the real focus.” Most district events included an element of service, and individual Rotarians and clubs that excelled in service were recognized. Even the district conference was billed as a “Service Cruise,” with five different service projects in Cozumel and Jamaica, spearheaded by clubs already familiar with the needs of those communities. In 2023, Bill organized another District Conference Service
Cruise to continue the international partnership with local clubs in Roatan and Cozumel and more than 100 Texas Rotarians delivered over 10,000 pounds of books and supplies to the islanders.

Bill’s attitude of rolling up his sleeves and determination to work with the strengths of others, created great Rotary Partnerships. Bill found a charitable partner and traveled to Africa to fulfill a ten-year district goal of providing education for girls in Malawi. The scholarship project with Orant Charities continues today. Additionally, Rotarians worked with the group, Proclaim Cuba, to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Cuba.

Past roles include District Interact Chair, District International Service Coordinator, District Representative for Council on Legislation, and District Foundation Chairperson. Currently Bill is an Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator and a member of the Rotary International Audit Committee. Bill is a Foundation Major Donor and a member of the Paul Harris Society, White Hat Society, and Bequest Society. Recognitions include District Foundation Award, District Youth Service
Award, District Rotarian of the Year, and in 2020, Bill received Rotary International’s highest honor, the Service Above Self Award. Professionally, Bill is an Attorney, CPA and Certified Financial Planner. For fun, Bill enjoys travel-especially Rotary Travel- and SCUBA. He is a member of American Mensa and is an instrument rated, multi-engine, private pilot. His wife, Lisa, is an attorney and committed Rotarian.
